Place tip of needle into top of the last ST worked under the back loop of the stitch and pull through to the back of the work. Weave in the end. Learn how to do this with my invisible finish/join tutorial.
- Single Crochet (SC) Join: With a slip knot already on the hook, insert hook into the designated stitch. YO and pull up a loop. YO and pull through both loops on the hook. View the SC Join tutorial here.
Finished Size:
- The finished item fits my Advent Adam & Addy dolls (each finished doll is 10” tall)
Gauge:
- Clothing: 4 sts across x 6 rows = 1” square
Notes:
- These clothing and accessory patterns are designed to fit my Advent Adam and Addy dolls. Gauge is important for ensuring that your doll clothes fit your doll appropriately. If you don’t plan to match gauge, ensure that you maintain a consistent tension throughout each project. Using the same yarn line and hook throughout each project can also assist with minimizing gauge/tension changes.
- For a cleaner SCDEC on pieces worked in continuous rounds, do your SCDEC under the front loops only of each ST rather than under both loops. This is often referred to as an invisible decrease. Check out my invisible decrease tutorial to see it done.
- For pieces worked in turned rows, use a normal SCDEC stitch instead of the invisible decrease.
- When you change colours, use the last YO of the previous stitch (except where otherwise indicated).
- The number in brackets at the end of each row or round of instructions shows the stitch count you should have at the end of each row or round.
- I have included a pattern for shoes for both the Elf costume (that can also be used for the amigurumi crochet Fire Fighter uniform) and recommend putting them into the same advent calendar box as the hats for these costumes.

Elf Shorts
(Worked in joined and turned rounds)
To create these elf shorts, we’re going to crochet from the bottom of the legs of the shorts and work out way up. We’ll work the first leg of the shorts and then we’ll crochet the second leg of the shorts and join the two together.
After joining, we’ll continue on to make the remainder of the shorts, including the overall straps, all in a single piece.
Pant Leg 1:
Using Colour H (green yarn), CH 20, join last CH to first CH with a SL ST, taking care not to twist the CH.
Round 1: CH 1, SC around. Join last ST to first ST with a SL ST (from here on out referred to as “Join”). (20)
Rounds 2 – 4: CH 1 and turn. SC around. Join. (20)
FO.
Pant Leg 2:
Using Colour H, CH 20, join last CH to first CH with a SL ST, taking care not to twist the CH.
Round 1: CH 1, SC in the first CH and each CH around. Join. (20)
Rounds 2 – 4: CH 1 and turn. SC around. Join. (20)
Do NOT FO. We will continue on to join the pant legs and create the rest of the shorts.
Round 5: CH 2 and turn. SC in the last ST of Round 4 of Pant Leg 1 and PM in the second CH (It will now be our first ST in subsequent rounds), SC 19 around Pant Leg 1, SC in each of the 2 CHs, SC in last ST of Round 4 of Pant Leg 2, SC 19 around the top of Pant Leg 2, SC in the 1st CH. Join with SL ST in marked CH. (44 – 2nd CH counts as a ST)
Rounds 6 – 14: CH 1 and turn. SC around. Join. (44)
Round 15: CH 1 and turn. SC 4, CH 34, SL ST in the 7th CH from the hook and each CH across, SC in the next 36 STs of Round 14, CH 34, SL ST in the 7th Ch from the hook and each CH across, SC in the last 4 STs. Join. (44 sts & 2 shoulder straps)FO. Weave in ends.
Using sewing needle and thread, sew a button on the front of the elf shorts, across from each of the CH-6 spaces in the shoulder straps from Round 15. Use the CH-6 space to fasten the shorts closed by slipping it over the button once on the doll. To help with placement, put the shorts on the doll with the straps over the shoulders, and place a stitch marker in the spot where you want to sew the button.

Amigurumi Doll Christmas Elf Outfit Continued – Week 2
This week we’re going to be making the shirt for our cute doll elf outfit. If you’re using the same colors as my sample, you’ll a bit of red yarn and some white yarn to make this striped elf shirt.
Feel free to use whatever colors you prefer or have available though. In this project we will change color every two rows but if you’d prefer not to change colors that often, you can omit every other color change to have wider stripes in your elf’s shirt.
Elf Shirt Construction
The elf shirt is worked from the top of the shirt (the neckline) down to the bottom of the sweater in turned rows. After shaping the yoke of the sweater, we’ll create some armholes and then proceed to crocheting the body of the sweater. Once the body of the sweater is completed, we’ll attach our sleeves under the arms and crochet them onto the sweater.
I love the stripes in this sweater with the use of bright colors to contrast with the green yarn that we used in the overall shorts of our doll Christmas Elf outfit. It really gives it that Christmasy feel and personally, I have a hard time envisioning elves without them wearing red and white stripes somewhere.
Anyways, I hope that you enjoy making your amigurumi doll elf sweater. If you find yourself stuck with any of the instructions, please check out the step-by-step video tutorial included with this pattern for even more detailed instructions.

Where do I put the shoes in my advent calendar?
I recommend putting the shoes you make for this outfit or the firefighter costume in the same box as the elf hat or helmet.
Those items are smaller and will have more room in the box and the days that they get the hat/helmet, it’ll be like a bonus day because they will get a second item.
