How to Crochet PJs for Amigurumi Dolls

These amigurumi doll pjs are made in two separate pieces and are designed to be minimalized sewing patterns.  We’ll start by crocheting the pj shirt from the bottom up and then adding each of the sleeves.  The pajama shirt has mini functional pockets (an unnecessary but fun little detail) which we’ll crochet and then sew onto the front of the shirt.  If you want to minimize your sewing even further, you can omit the pockets.

After completing the pj shirt, we’ll move on to crocheting the pajama shorts which are also crocheted from the bottom up, in one piece.

Both pieces of this project use buttons to fasten the doll garments onto the doll so after crocheting each garment piece, we’ll sew the buttons onto the pajama top and shorts.  Then your amigurumi doll pajamas are ready to be worn!

Fun Ways To Customize Your Doll Pajamas

  • Add stripes, changing colors every 2 rows for thin stripes and every 4 rows for wider stripes.

  • Make the pockets a different color from the body of the PJ top.

  • Make the shirt and shorts different colors

  • Add embellishments like embroiding your child’s initials on one of the pockets, adding ribbon or fun-shaped buttons.

Finished Size:

  • To fit Advent Adam & Addy dolls – 10” tall dolls

Gauge:

  • Clothing: 4 sts across x 6 rows = 1” square

Notes:

  • These clothing and accessory patterns are designed to fit my Advent Adam and Addy dolls.  Gauge is important for ensuring that your doll clothes fit your doll appropriately.  If you don’t plan to match gauge, ensure that you maintain a consistent tension throughout each project.  Using the same yarn line and hook throughout each project can also assist with minimizing gauge/tension changes.

  • For a cleaner SCDEC on pieces worked in continuous rounds, do your SCDEC under the front loops only of each ST rather than under both loops.  This is often referred to as an invisible decrease.  Check out my invisible decrease tutorial on to see it done.

  • For pieces worked in turned rows, use a normal SCDEC stitch instead of the invisible decrease.

  • Colour changes are done using the last YO of the previous stitch (except where otherwise indicated).
