Patterns Included in Crochet Snails & Mushroom Sprites
This isn’t your typical crochet pattern book – it’s a full-blown build-your-own crochet cottagecore collection full of snail steeds and mushroom sprite companions.
Instead of a traditional pattern-per-page format, Crochet Snails & Mushroom Sprites functions more like a recipe book. You choose from dozens of options to create your own unique creatures. Want a sprite with a tall cap and dangly legs? Go for it. Dreaming of a snail companion with intricate spiraling shells and a saddle? You got it.
The book is divided into five sections:
- Mushroom Sprites
- Small Snails
- Medium Snails
- Giant Sizes
- Saddles & Accessories
From there, you mix and match elements like mushroom caps (23 cap styles!), arm and leg options (over 20 combined), body shapes, and limb options to create a whimsical duo of your own design. The included photo galleries at the beginning of each section will help you visualize what the pieces look like so you can build your toy.
Megan includes planning sheets so you can keep track of your “recipes,” making it easy to recreate your favourites. One of my favourite upgrades from her previous books is that most of the photos in this book include the exact recipe used to create the pictured toy.

What are the Patterns Like?
I found the patterns to be clear and easy to understand, though in some places, the notes found below the instructions for that round would trip me up because instead of explaining that instruction with the row instructions, it’s added as a note underneath the row. So take time to read the pattern thoroughly before diving in to save yourself some time and frustration.
What Crochet Terminology is Used?
This book uses standard US crochet terminology throughout. I could not find a US to UK conversion chart.

Who This Book Is For (And Who Might Struggle With It)
I could not find any listed skill levels in this book, but I think this book is best suited for intermediate to advanced crafters. If you’re newer to amigurumi, this may be a challenging starting point.
That said, if you’re comfortable with amigurumi patterns and you love the idea of building your own crochet creatures, there are endless possibilities here for creative expression.
What Supports are Included for Makers?
Beyond the photo support found in with the patterns, the first 9 pages of the book are full of helpful guidance. You’ll find:
- Tips & Tricks
- Planning Sheets
- A glossary of terms and stitches
The glossary includes written stitch instructions but no photo breakdowns. I do wish there was a full yarn list included. Megan uses such beautiful, variegated yarns, and I’d love to know the exact shades behind her magical creatures to use them when using the patterns in the book.
