Front and Back Post Double Crochet stitches are a fabulous crochet stitch technique to have in your crochet tool box. They add texture to your fabric and are used to create crochet cables. If you can do simple double crochet stitches then you can do front and back post double crochet stitches as it just takes a small chage to turn that regular double crochet stitch into a front post or back post double crochet stitches. Today I’ll show you how to to front post double crochet stitches (FPDC) and back post double crochet (BPDC) stitches in this tutorial.

Step One: Work a row of double crochet stitches. For my sample here, I did a chain of 12. DC in the 4th CH from the hook and each CH across. I have 10 DC stitches.

When you are working the next post stitch, make sure to skip the head of the stitch in the back before moving onto the next stitch. In the picture below, you can see that I have skipped the head of the stitch that I worked the post stitch around and then a double crochet in the next stitch. Now we’ll move on to do the back post double crochet stitch.

  1. Is a back post double crochet the same as a back double crochet?

    Reply
    • I’ve never heard the back double crochet before and I don’t see a stitch called that on the craft yarn council site. If it is executed in the same manner as the back post double, as I’ve outlined above, then it would be the same.
