This week I’m sharing my free crochet unicorn pattern for Eunice the Unicorn! Eunice is such a fun project to whip up and is the perfect gift for the unicorn lover in your life. I designed this free crochet unicorn pattern to minimize seaming/sewing so her body and head are made in a single piece. But, my absolute favourite part of this pattern? Eunice’s faux fur mane and tail! The mane and tail are only 1 or two rows each so they’re great for giving faux fur yarn a try if you haven’t given it a shot already.

Recently, I designed my Sprinkles the Unicorn pattern (available for sale in my Ravelry shop and Etsy shop) which is a large amigurumi unicorn crochet pattern. I wanted to create a smaller (but just as) adorable unicorn to share as a free crochet unicorn pattern here on the blog. I started designing Eunice but I wanted to do something a bit different with her mane. I even ended up putting Eunice away for two weeks because I just couldn’t decide what I wanted to do with her after finishing her body, arms and horn.

One day, I was working on another design made with faux fur yarn and it hit me! Use Fable Fur! I had a little bit of Fable Fur in Volpe from making my Flikka Flamingo pattern left over and it ended up being just enough to make the mane and tail for Eunice. The fluffy unicorn mane is made in a single piece and so is the tail. I used WeCrochet’s Brava Worsted Weight Speckle yarn for the body of this free crochet unicorn pattern, which is a worsted weight acrylic yarn available variety of different colors. I recently did a review of Brava Speckle and I really loved the colourway Cake Pop Speckle for a unicorn because it’s fun and colourful and it gives you all those rainbow colours without all the work. Actually, to be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of speckled yarns until I gave Brava Speckle a try and it totally changed my opinion of speckled yarns. I loved it so much I ordered it in every colour! I have some plans for other free amigurumi patterns using this speckled yarn that I can’t wait to share with you soon. If you prefer a more traditional-looking magical unicorn, try using white yarn in place of the speckled yarn.
My little girl loves unicorns so I let her decide on what other colour I would use for this free amigurumi pattern. She decided she wanted pink unicorn hooves. Brava had the perfect pink yarn to go with the speckled yarn that I used for the body called Rouge. You only need a small amount or Rouge for this pattern but again, feel free to substitute your favourite pink color (or any other color) for the Rouge when making your own cute unicorn.
How to Crochet this Cute Crochet Unicorn Pattern
This is a relatively easy pattern to crochet as it uses basic crochet stitches. It is worked from the bottom-up from it’s feet up to its head. It is marked as Intermediate due to the joining of the legs and having to work with the fur yarn. Then the ears, arms, mane and pointed horn are worked in separate pieces and seamed together. Although I have used vibrant colors for my legendary creature, feel free to change up the color you use to great a different look for your crochet unicorn amigurumi toy.
Make sure that you take time to read the detailed instructions for this amigurumi project through before starting your crochet pattern and to count your number of stitches at the end of every round to make sure you have the proper amount.

Special Techniques:
- Invisible Finish/Join: FO leaving a long tail. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle. Place the tapestry needle through the top of the 2nd ST from front to back and pull through. Place tip of needle into top of the last ST of the round, under the back loop of the stitch, and pull through to the back of the work. Weave in the end. Finished Size:
- Approximately 10 inches tall from tip of horn to bottoms of legs
Gauge:
- Brava with 3.5 mm crochet hook: 9 sts across x 11 rows = 2” square
- Fable Fur with 5.5 mm crochet hook: 4 sts across x 4 rows = 2” square
NOTES:
- All parts of the unicorn are worked in continuous rounds. Do not join at the end of the row, unless indicated. A stitch marker is used to keep track of the beginning of the round.
- For a cleaner SCDEC, do your SCDEC under the front loops only of the stitch rather than under both loops. This is often referred to as an invisible decrease. Check out my invisible decrease tutorial.
- Gauge is not vital to the project but please keep in mind that by not matching
gauge, this may affect how much yarn is needed as well as the size of your toy. - The CH 2 in Round 1 of the body are included in the ST count.

Eyelashes
Using the black embroidery thread, embroider some eyelashes next to each eye. Start in the stitch directly next to the center/side of each eye. Insert the needle into the stitch two stitches to the right and back up through the stitch you started the eyelashes in.
Insert the needle into the stitch that is one stitch above and slightly to the left (for the first eyelash on the right side and to the right for the left eyelash) of tip of the first eye lash. Repeat with the other eye.
Horn
Round 1: Using Canary and a 3.5mm hook, make a MC and SC 6 into the MC (6)
Rounds 2 – 3: SC around (6)
Round 4: (SC 2, SCINC) x 2 (8)
Round 5: SC around (8)
Round 6: (SC, SCINC) x 4 (12) – Start stuffing, adding more as you go
Rounds 7 – 11: SC around (12)
FO leaving a long tail to sew onto the head.
Sew onto the forehead of your unicorn, adding stuffing as you sew.
Mane
Round 1: Using Fable Fur and 5.5mm hook, CH 18 (chain should measure 7” long). SC in the 7th CH from the hook, SC 10, SC 5 in the last CH. Working up the other side of the chain, SC 11, SC 6 around the loop. (33)
Round 2: SC 11, (SCINC) x 5, SC 11 Join to next ST with a SL ST. (27)
FO and weave in ends. Place the loop in the mane around the base of the horn.
Using a length of Cake Pop yarn, sew the mane to the head of the unicorn.
Tail
Round 1: Using Fable Fur and 5.5mm hook, CH 10, SCINC in the 2nd CH from the hook, (SCINC)x2, SC 6 (12) FO leaving a long tail. Sew onto bum of the unicorn.
