Pair of children's pink furry slippers madae with this easy crochet slippers free pattern

I am so excited to share my easy crochet slippers free pattern with you today! These furry crochet slippers couldn’t be any easier and they are great for beginners. They’re made from a simple rectangle! That’s it! This easy crochet slipper pattern uses only basic crochet stitches and techniques making them accessible for beginners. Written in 10 different sizes you can make a pair of crochet slippers for everyone in the family. Don’t forget to check out my tips for using any yarn weight you’d like to make these slippers as well.

I came up with this idea one day while doing remote schooling with my son and myfeet were freezing. I almost always have cold feet, my feet were particularly cold that day and I needed to do something about it. Sitting across from me was some Fable Fur Yarn. I had previously made a crochet cowl with Fable Fur (find the free pattern for the Not So Guilty Pleasure Cowl here.) and loved how warm and cozy that was so I thought, let’s try slippers.

easy crochet slippers free pattern made from rectangles

I needed something simple to keep my toes toasty because I was going to be making them while I helped my son with school. I decided to use a rectangle to make my simple slippers since I didn’t want to fuss with figuring out how to make a heel. An hour later, I had a cute (and WARM) pair of furry, cozy crochet slippers. Only one problem remained, they were a bit slippery on my laminate floors. I had some suede left over from another project so I decided to add some suede soles to bottom of the slipper to help me from slipping all over the place and it worked! When I finished my slippers, I was hooked and ended up making them for everyone.

This easy crochet pattern is great for when you need a quick gift. Many of the sizes can be made with a single skein of yarn. Because this easy pattern is made entirely of single crochet stitches, it’s easy to adjust to indivisual foot lengths and you can have a pair of slippers in no time. I’ve also included a full video tutorial to show how to make your own suede or leather soles for any size you choose to make.

If you’d rather have that work done for you, the ad-free PDF version of this easy slipper pattern includes printable sole templates and pull tab templates for women’s and men’s sizes. Just print the template, cut it out and then use it to trace onto your suede/faux leather. But if you don’t want to do that, We Crochet sells pre-made suede slipper sole kits! Available in both Men’s size and Women’s size.

Do I have to use Faux Fur Yarn?

If you aren’t a fan of faux fur yarns, you can use another yarn of your preference to make these. You just have to crochet a rectangle to the size specifications I’ve given you in the size chart below. This will mean you may have to adjust your hook size and the amount of chains (stitch count) needed but as long as you can crochet a rectangle to the measurements given in the chart, you can use any other yarn you’d like. So break out that chunky yarn, bulky yarn or even that skein of t-shirt yarn from your yarn stash and give it a try.

If this is your first time using faux fur yarns and you want to give it a try, check out my Tips & Tricks for working with Faux Fur Yarns before getting started so you can hit the ground running.

Notes:

  • Gauge is vital for ensuring the slippers will be the appropriate size.  If not matching gauge, crochet a rectangle to the size in the chart given below.  Please note that not matching gauge may affect the amount of yarn needed for the project.

  • A 5.5mm crochet hook is recommended for the project but if you find you are unable to feel your stitches, you can adjust your hook until you can more easily feel your stitches to more easily know where to place your stitches.  This may however affect your gauge and therefore, the amount of yarn needed.

  • Measurements for shoe sizes given are approximate and based on Craft Yarn Council measurements.  Instructions are provided for a custom fit, as well as sizes in the chart.

Custom Sizing Your Slippers:

To make a slipper that is custom fit to the size of your foot, create a chain that is the same length as your foot when slightly stretched.  Measure the circumference of the widest part of your foot and crochet your rectangle to that measurement.  Repeat with second slipper.

Rustic Fur Easy Crochet Slippers Pattern (Make Two):

Row 1: Create a chain the length that’s listed in the chart for the size you’re making. SC in the 2nd CH from the hook and each CH across.

Row 2: Turn. CH 1.  SC in each ST across.

Rows 3 – End (see number of rows given in size chart): Turn CH 1.  SC in each ST across.
FO leaving a long tail for seaming.

Assembly:

Creating the Heel: Fold your rectangle in half lengthwise and using your tail, seam the two sides of one end together to create the heel.

Creating the Toe:  Thread the worsted weight yarn onto a tapestry needle and weave it in and out of the open end of your slipper, leaving a yarn tail on both ends.  Pull each end of the worsted weight yarn to cinch the end of your rectangle closed and tie a knot to secure it.  Use the rest of your yarn to seam up the opening of the slipper, seaming it about halfway up the seam.  FO and weave in ends.

Adding the Soles:

Place one of your slippers on a piece of paper and use a pencil to trace around the slipper.

I have already done the work of creating sole templates for the adult slipper sizes and included a template for a pull tab for those sizes. You can find these in the printable PDF version of this pattern in my Ravelry shop or in my Etsy shop.

Draw a circle/oval in the area where the toes and heel would be that is slightly smaller than the shape you just traced.  Cut those circles/ovals out and use those as templates to cut out your soles from the suede.
