This week I’m sharing my free crochet pattern to create a crochet dress for amigurumi dolls. This beautiful pattern is beginner-friendly and reminds me of princess dolls that I had when I was a little girl. Included in this post is the full free pattern for the dress as well as a step-by-step video tutorial for how to crochet a doll dress.
I’ll be sharing some links to some other free crochet doll dress patterns and doll garments that you can add to your doll’s wardrobe as well. This pattern is Week 12 of the Amigurumi Advent Calendar Crochet Along and is designed to fit my Advent Amy doll pattern. However, it could fit a number of my other amigurumi doll patterns that I have available.

How do you make a crochet doll dress?
For this pattern, we are going to start with the bodice of the dress and work down towards the skirt. Then we will change colors and work on the skirt. After finishing with the skirt, we will return to the top of the bodice and crochet the straps of our dress. We will use stitches of varying heights to make the straps appear wider in sections and to make it look like the straps taper towards the center-front of the bodice. Buttons are then sewn onto the back to finish.

Ways to Customize This Crochet Doll Dress
Many of our lovely amigurumi advent calendar crochet along participants are making multiple dolls and advent calendars. Since each doll is getting their own wardrobe I thought it would be a great idea to include some fun ways to customize this dress.
- Use different colors to create holiday dresses. Try orange and black for Halloween, red and white for a Christmas dress. You get the idea.
- Add extra rows to the skirt to make it a full-length gown.
- Omit rows from the skirt to make a shorter dress.
Important Note About The Supply List for this Project:

Learn how to do this with my invisible finish/join tutorial.
Finished Size:
- Clothing to fit Advent Amy Doll which is approximately 10.5” tall.
Gauge:
- Clothing: 4 sts across x 6 rows = 1” square.
- Doll: Rounds 1 – 4 of the Leg = 1.5” across at widest point.
Notes:
- Gauge is important for ensuring that all of the parts of your doll fit appropriately. If you don’t plan to match gauge, ensure that you maintain a consistent tension throughout your project.
- Most of the pieces are worked back and forth in turned rows, unless noted. Read instructions for each piece carefully before starting to crochet.
- For pieces worked in continuous rounds, a stitch marker is used to marker the first ST of the round and is moved up in each consecutive round.
- CH 2 in Round 6 of the body of the bear counts as a ST.
- You may need to fold down the ears of the bear for it to fit into the advent box.
