It is winter here in Canada and it is C-O-L-D! Like 30 below zero cold. I am always on the look out for ways to keep myself warmer when I eventually bundle up to head outdoors . Enter the Not-So-Guilty Pleasure Cowl. I decided to design a faux fur crochet cowl free pattern that was accessible for beginners but would also help keep me from freezing during our winters. This cowl is probably the warmest I’ve ever worn and I LOVE IT.

This is my first wearable design using faux fur yarns. Y’all know I love faux fur for amigurumi patterns so I don’t know why it took me so long to start using it for accessories. You can’t even tell it’s crocheted! I’ve included a tip in this pattern that’ll fluff the fur in your project right up and any sort of lines from crocheting in rows disappears.

This faux fur crochet cowl free pattern is accessible for absolute beginners and is easily adjusted to be any size you want. Did I mention that we’re going to be using big 8.0mm crochet hooks to crochet this baby up in a flash? Trust me, you’re probably going to be making several of these. If you’re a maker that sells, this is one of those patterns that you can whip up in a jiff, has a relatively low cost and would fetch a decent price. This faux fur cowl crochet pattern uses Fable Fur yarn from We Crochet. I absolutely love using this product! It is so soft and worked up into this cowl, it’s so warm and soft against the skin, I may need to make myself a couple of these in different colours. Working back and forth in rows with the fur can make the lines of the row a little bit more visible than when working in rounds. To make your cowl look more like a piece of fur and remove those lines, use a wire brush and gently brush the right side of your work. It totally smoothes it out and no one will be able to tell it’s crocheted.

CH = Chain
ST = Stitch
SL ST = Slip Stitch

Finished size:

29” Long by 10” wide

Gauge:

10 sts x 11 rows = 4 inches

NOTES:

Gauge is not vital to the project as long as the same tension is maintained throughout the project and there are no gaping holes that can be seen through however, it may affect the amount of yarn needed for the project.
An 8.0mm crochet hook is recommended for the project but if you find you are unable to feel your stitches, you can adjust your hook size until you can more easily feel your stitches to know where to place your stitches. This may, however, affect your gauge and therefore, the amount of yarn needed.

Faux Fur Crochet Cowl Free Pattern: The Not-So-Guilty Pleasure Cowl

CH 25.

Row 1: SC in the 2^nd chain from the hook and in each ST across (24)

Rows 2 – 77: CH 1 and turn. SC in each ST across. (24)

FO leaving a long tail and seam the two short ends together with the wrong side/fluffiest side facing each other.

Weave in ends and turn the fluffiest side of your cowl to face outwards.

Fluffing Up Your Cowl:

To really fluff up your cowl, use a wire brush to gently brush the fur on the side of the cowl that will face outwards. This will conceal any marks you have showing where the rows were worked and make your project look more realistic.

Adjusting the Size of Your Cowl:

Adjusting the width: To adjust the width of your cowl to make it taller, add more chains to your starting chain. To make it shorter, omit chains from the starting chain.

Adjusting the height: To adjust the height of your cowl to make it longer, add more rows until it reaches the desired length. To make it shorter and sit closer to the neck, work less rows than the project calls for until the project is the desired length.
