A Great First Tapestry Crochet Project
This easy crochet glasses case pattern is a great pattern for getting started with tapestry crochet. Because we will be using only 2 different colors for this project, it makes handling the color changes easier.
And because this is such a small project, it works up quickly and gives you some great practice with tapestry crochet as a technique without being overwhelming.
About the Yarn
I used a 100 % cotton yarn when I designed this sunglasses case pattern. I chose that yarn for its durability, washability and great stitch definition.
With the Lion Brand Pima Cotton that I used, you would have enough leftover yarn after making an eyeglass case to make a second and a third!
If you would like to substitute another worsted weight yarn or use another fibre like, say, an acrylic yarn, feel free to do that.
Other Uses For This Sunglasses Case
Besides holding reading glasses and sunglasses, this cute project can be used as a pouch for many different things.
It could hold cell phones, act as a crochet hook case while also holding stitch markers and other little notions you need to carry with you on the go.
So whether you want to keep it for yourself to hold your own glasses or you plan to give it as a gift, it’s a fun and easy pattern that you’ll want to make again and again.

- SC = Single Crochet
- SCINC = Single Crochet Increase / 2 Single Crochet Stitches in the Same Stitch

Special Stitches & Techniques:
- Reverse Slip Stitch Join (RSS): Remove working loop from hook and insert hook from back of fabric through to the front through the indicated ST. Place working loop back on hook and pull the loop through the stitch to the back of the fabric.
Finished Size:
- Approx. 3.25” wide x 6.5” tall
Gauge:
- 12 sts x 10 rounds = 2” square
NOTES:
- Gauge is vital to ensure the sunglasses case turns out to be the right size. Not matching gauge will affect the amount of yarn used and the size of your finished project.
- This pattern is worked in continuous rounds (unless stated otherwise). Do not join at the end of the round, unless indicated. A stitch marker is used to keep track of the beginning of the round.
- This pattern is worked from the bottom of the sunglasses case to the top.
- The right side of the fabric is always facing you.
- Color changes are done using the last YO of the last stitch before the color change is indicated. Check out my how to change colors tutorial here.
- Carry unused colors and crochet over them as you work.
- A 3.5 mm hook is recommended for this pattern but I suggest using whatever hook size needed to create a tight, closed fabric free of holes, or whatever hook size needed to match the given gauge.
- If you find that you have holes in your fabric or the yarn you’re carrying is showing through using the recommended hook size, try going down a hook size until you create a tight fabric with no holes in it and your carried yarn isn’t showing through.
- If you find that you have holes in your fabric or the yarn you’re carrying is showing through using the recommended hook size, try going down a hook size until you create a tight fabric with no holes in it and your carried yarn isn’t showing through.
- When reading the written color changes for the Body section, the number next to the color in brackets indicates how many stitches in that color to work.
- For example, (Color A) x 5, (Color B) x 1 means you’ll work 5 stitches in Color A and then 1 stitch in Color B.
- For example, (Color A) x 5, (Color B) x 1 means you’ll work 5 stitches in Color A and then 1 stitch in Color B.
- After the Base is created, the Body of the project is worked in single crochet stitches that are worked in the BLO. The Top Trim of the case is worked under both loops.
