How To Crochet A Bucket Hat for a Doll
This free bucket hat crochet pattern is designed to fit my Advent Addy/Adam dolls but it could fit other dolls that have a similarly-sized head. This project is made of single crochet stitches and worked from the crown of the hat to the hat brim. While working the body of the hat, we’ll add a small stripe, which is a great way to add a pop of your favorite colors and add some visual interest.
This hat has a wide brim which is created by adding more increase stitches in the brim. To create a wider brim, you’d have to continue to increase at the same interval as your previous rows.
I have used an acrylic yarn to crochet my doll’s bucket hat but if you have used another type of yarn for your doll’s so far, like a cotton yarn, I recommend using the same type of yarn and the same yarn weight throughout both projects.
While I’ve used a different color to add a stripe in the side of the hat, you could ignore the instructions to change colors and make your hat in a solid color, if you wish.

Finished Size:
- To fit Advent Adam & Addy dolls – 10” tall dolls
Gauge:
- Clothing: 4 sts across x 6 rows = 1” square
Notes:
- These clothing and accessory patterns are designed to fit my Advent Adam and Addy dolls. Gauge is important for ensuring that your doll clothes fit your doll appropriately. If you don’t plan to match gauge, ensure that you maintain a consistent tension throughout each project. Using the same yarn line and hook throughout each project can also assist with minimizing gauge/tension changes.
- For a cleaner SCDEC on pieces worked in continuous rounds, do your SCDEC under the front loops only of each ST rather than under both loops. This is often referred to as an invisible decrease. Check out my invisible decrease tutorial on to see it done.
- For pieces worked in turned rows, use a normal SCDEC stitch instead of the invisible decrease.
- Colour changes are done using the last YO of the previous stitch (except where otherwise indicated).
