When the warm weather hits, I reach for my cotton yarn and quick crochet projects. My warm-weather projects tend to be from a simple pattern that is easily transported from place to place so I can take my crochet on our family adventures. These beautiful coasters are a great pattern for travelling, especially since I don’t need to bring a lot of tools or materials with me.

This colorful coasters made with this simple crochet coaster pattern makeg great gifts for the tea lover or coffee lover. They work up quickly and can be made from small amounts of worsted weight cotton yarn that you likely already have in your yarn stash. You can choose to make them in two colors as I have but they also look great in a single color. They’re easy to match to your home decor or that of someone receiving these as a gift.
This pattern is accessible for beginner crocheters and I have included a video tutorial to walk you through making these little coasters. Since they don’t take much time to make, you’ll have cute protection for your side table or coffee table in no time. - 4 mm (G-6) Furls Crochet Hook
- Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (100% Mercerized Cotton, 186yds/170m, 100g/3.5oz), 1 skein each of:
- Color A: Goldenrod (approx. 22 yds);
- Color B: Denim (approx. 44 yds);
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors
- Blocking Materials (pins, blocking mat etc.)
- Stitch Marker (optional)
Abbreviations:
- BLO = Back Loop Only
- CH = Chain
- CH-SP = Chain Space(s)
- DC = Double Crochet
- FO = Finish Off
- HDC = Half Double Crochet
- SC = Single Crochet
- SL ST = Slip Stitch
- ST = Stitch
- TR = Treble Crochet / Triple Crochet
- YO = Yarn Over
Special Stitches/Techniques:
- DC Cluster: YO, insert hook into ST, YO, pull up a loop, YO and pull through first two loops on hook, [YO, insert hook into same ST, YO, pull up a loop, YO and pull through first two loops on hook] twice, with 4 loops on hook, YO and pull through all loops on hook.
- Invisible Finish/Join: FO leaving a long tail. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle. Place the tapestry needle through the top of the 2nd ST from front to back and pull through. Place tip of needle into top of the last ST of the round, under the back loop of the stitch, and pull through to the back of the work. Weave in the end. Need more help? Finished Size:
- Approx. 4.25” across
Gauge:
- Motif measures approx. 4.25” across at the end of Round 5.
NOTES:
- CH-3 counts as the first DC of the round.
- This project is worked in joined rounds. Do NOT turn at the end of each row.
- Invisible joins are used to create a cleaner join at the end of specified rows. A SL ST can be used if that is your preference, but it will create a more obvious join.
- Gauge is not vital to this project however, it may affect the size of your coaster and the amount of yarn used.
- A stitch marker can be used to help keep track of the first stitch of each round.

Round 1: Using Colour A, CH 4, join last CH to first CH with a SL ST to form a ring. CH 1, SC 12 into the ring. Join last ST to first ST with a SL ST. (12)
Round 2: CH 3 (counts as first DC here and throughout), DC2TOG in same ST as CH 3 (counts as first DC-Cluster), CH 1, *DC-Cluster in the next ST, CH 1, repeat from * around. Fasten off with invisible join. (12 Clusters)
Round 3: Join Colour B with a SL ST in the BLO of the first DC Cluster of Round 2. CH 1, HDC in the BLO of the first ST, HDC in the BLO of each CH and ST around. Fasten off with invisible join. (24)

FO and weave in ends. Steam or wet block to flatten the coaster and set your stitches.
