This week I am going to show you how to crochet a simple doll skirt for an amigurumi doll as well as how to crochet a simple pair of shoes for a doll. These free crochet patterns are accessible to beginners and includes both written patterns and step-by-step video tutorials. These patterns are Weeks 5 & 6 of the CAL.

How do I Crochet a Doll Skirt?
The crochet doll skirt that we are going to create for our amigurumi dolls is very simple. It is made in a single piece and requires no seaming. We will start from the top of the skirt and create a button-hole in our first row. After working several unjoined rows, we will begin joining our rows with a slip stitch and working in turned rows.
You will need a worsted weight yarn, a 3.5mm (E) crochet hook, a 9mm button and some thread and a sewing needle in order to follow along with this crochet skirt for amigurumi dolls tutorial.
How To Add Your Skirt To your Amigurumi Doll?
The crochet skirt for our amigurumi dolls is created in a way that may remind you of the doll skirts you had for your dolls as a child. It has a joined bottom and an open top that joins to secure it to the doll’s hips. The doll’s skirt should be slid up over the dolls legs and then fastened with the button at the top once it is in place at the doll’s hips.
How Do You Crochet Amigurumi Doll Shoes?
You will need a worsted weight yarn and a 3.5mm (E) crochet hook in order to crochet the shoes for your doll with this pattern/tutorial.
The pattern I’ve shared below for the amigurumi doll shoes for Advent Amy is only 9 rounds long. Gauge is important for ensuring that your shoes fit your doll. I have included a gauge check reminder in the pattern to help you make sure it fits (provided you have matched gauge for your doll).
The shoes will be snug to place on the doll at first. In order for the shoes to stay on the doll, they will need to be snug at first so that as the yarn relaxes, they will still stay on the doll. If your shoes fall off your doll right after finishing them, you’ll have to frog them and start over with a tighter tension.
A Note About the Doll Shoes
The shoes made from today’s pattern go in their own box in your advent calendar. I recommend making them in black or another colour that will go with as many outfits as possible.
Rather than having shoes take up multiple boxes, I have planned for one pair of shoes per box. Feel free to make multiple pairs of shoes using this pattern and add them with other outfit pieces or fill one box full with multiple pairs of shoes.
What do I do with my skirt & shoes when I’m done?
When you are done following this simple crochet skirt for amigurumi dolls tutorial, place it in one of the boxes of your DIY advent calendar that we worked on in Week 4. You can place it in any box you’d like. I have placed my outfit pieces into the box in the order that I’m making them so that the receipient will get a full outfit over 2 days. The shoes will go in their own box (see my note on the shoes below).

- CH SP = Chain Space

Special Techniques and Stitches:
- Invisible Finish/Join: FO leaving a long tail. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle. Place the tapestry needle through the top of the 2nd ST from front to back and pull through. Place tip of needle into top of the last ST of the round, under the back loop of the stitch, and pull through to the back of the work. Weave in the end. Learn how to do this with my invisible finish/join tutorial.
- Picot Single Crochet (PSC): Insert hook into indicated stitch, yarn over hook and pull through stitch. Yarn over and pull through one loop on the hook three times. Yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook. Learn how to do this with my Picot Single Crochet Tutorial.
Finished Size:
- Doll is approximately 10.5” tall
Gauge:
- Clothing: 4 sts across x 6 rows = 1” square
- Doll: Rounds 1 – 4 of the Leg = 1.5” across at widest point.
Notes:
- Gauge is important for ensuring that all of the parts of your doll fit appropriately. If you don’t plan to match gauge, ensure that you maintain a consistent tension throughout your project.
- This pattern is worked in continuous rounds (unless stated otherwise). Do not join at the end of the row, unless indicated. A stitch marker is used to keep track of the beginning of the round.
- For a cleaner SCDEC, do your SCDEC under the front loops only of each st rather than under both loops. This is often referred to as an invisible decrease. Learn how to do this invisible decrease tutorial.
- In Round 1 of the Body of the doll only, the CH 1 is counted as a st and should be worked into in Round 2 of the body.

Simple Crochet Doll Skirt & Shoes for Amigurumi Dolls: Step-by-Step Video Instructions.
Skirt
Using Colour E, CH 40.
Row 1: SC in the 7th CH from the hook and each CH across. (34)
Rows 2 – 5: CH 1 and turn. SC in each ST across. (34)
Rows 6 – 13: CH 1 and turn. SC in each ST across. Join last ST to the first ST with a SL ST. (34)
FO and weave in ends. Using sewing needle and thread, sew a button on the skirt, across from the CH-6 space from Row 1.
Use the CH-6 space to fasten the skirt closed by slipping it over the button once on the doll.
Shoes (Make 2)
Round 1: Using Colour G, make a MC and SC 6 into the MC. (6)
Round 2: (SCINC) x 6 (12)
Round 3: (SC 1, SCINC) x 6 (18)
Round 4: SC 1, SCINC, (SC 2, SCINC) x 5, SC 1 (24)
Gauge Check: Piece should measure 1.5” across at widest point.
Round 5: In FLO, SC around (24)
Rounds 6 – 7: SC around (24)
Round 8: (SCDEC) x 6, SC 12 (18)
Round 9: SC around (18)
