If you can do the single crochet stitch and do a chain, then you can do the Picot Single Crochet Stitch. Picot Single Crochet Stitch is a variation of the single crochet stitch that creates a beautifully textured fabric that looks like tiny bobbles. Included in this tutorial are both a photo and video tutorial to help you master this stitch.
The Picot Single Crochet Stitch is abbeviated in patterns as (PSC). The different between the basic single crochet and the Picot Single Crochet stitch is quick and easy to accomplish. The PSC needs to be worked from the wrong side of the fabric so that the picots will pop out on the right side of the fabric.

You’ll often see the PSC worked with a row of single crochet (or another row of stitches) in between them. When rows of the Picot Single Crochet Stitch are alternated with rows of single crochet stitches, it is referred to as the Granule Stitch.
What is a Crochet Picot Stitch?
A basic picot stitch is usually created by chaining a specified number of chains and then working a slip stitch into the first chain you create or sometimes, into another part of a stitch. It is often used as a crochet edging on a crochet blanket pattern. While the standard number of chains used to create a picot is 3, you can change the height of your picot stitches by adding extra chains to them before closing them.
What is the Difference Between a Picot and a Single Crochet Picot Stitch?
The difference between a regular picot and a single crochet picot stitch (PSC) is how they are made. A regular picot is typically after a stitch is completed, before moving onto the next stitch. Kind of putting the picot on top of the stitch.
While a PSC is done in the middle of a single crochet stitch, adding the picot or mini bobble wherever you’d like it to be placed in your fabric, creating a beautiful texture.
The Picot Single Crochet can be used in a variety of different ways but for today’s tutorial, I’ll show you how to do the Picot Single Crochet stitch as it is worked in the Granule Stitch. Picot Single Crochet & Granule Stitch Multiples
If you want linear picots (ones that line up, straight up and down), you’ll need to create a starting chain with a multiple of 2 +1+1.
To stagger your picots as typically done with Granule stitch, you’ll need to start with a multiple of 4+1+1 for the turning chain.
Picot Single Crochet:
Step 1: Insert hook into indicated stitch, yarn over (YO) hook and pull through stitch.
Step 2: YO and pull through one loop on the hook three times. (This creates the chain 3 that will become your picot)
Step 3: YO and pull through both loops on the hook.
Make sure that the picots are on the front of your work (aka the right side of the fabric). If they aren’t, you can use your finger to gently poke the picots onto the right side of your crochet piece.
