  • Old Brown Owl

  • Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle

The patterns are clear and easy to follow. I especially appreciated the labelled support images throughout the book, which make it simple to see exactly which step each image corresponds to. When it came to picking a favourite character, I couldn’t pick just one.  It came down to a tie between Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle and Benjamin Bunny – I just can’t resist his little hat!

The toys are worked with fingering, DK, and Aran weight yarns, and the recommended crochet hooks range from 2.5 mm to 4.5 mm. Finished sizes range from 1” to 8 ¾” tall, although your toys may vary depending on your personal gauge or tension. There’s no included gauge information to ensure your toys come out to the exact listed size.

The book is full of beautiful photography and what I believe are some of Beatrix Potter’s original illustrations which really make this book visually endearing.

Crochet Terminology

This book uses US crochet terminology, with UK term conversions included in the abbreviations chart on page 8.

Skill Level

There is no stated skill level in the book, but based on my experience, I would recommend this for intermediate to advanced crocheters. The colorwork and removable clothing require experience, as there’s no guidance on clothing fit or gauge to troubleshoot potential issues. This suggests the book assumes makers are already experienced in amigurumi.

Supports Included for Makers in Peter Rabbit Crochet Toys

The book provides basic supports in the Tools & Materials section and a Crochet Stitches section that features simple instructions with illustrations. Two special stitches are shown using real images for clarity.

The main help for makers is in the Techniques section (page 102), where you’ll find instructions for increasing, decreasing, seaming, and other crochet techniques used, all paired with clear, labelled step-by-step photos making them easy to match up with their step-by-step instructions. These are easy to follow, but I wish there had been more information on sizing and troubleshooting garment fit. Makers unfamiliar with how tension and gauge affect amigurumi clothing may run into issues without additional guidance.

Supplies Needed

To make the toys, the author recommends:

The yarn brands are listed in the Tools & Techniques section, but specific color names are not provided in the patterns.

Overall

Carla has created another adorable amigurumi pattern book that’s perfect for making your own nostalgic collection of Peter Rabbit toys or gifting handmade keepsakes. This book gives fans of the Peter Rabbit stories a way to enter Beatrix Potter’s world in a new way and to create cute crochet characters of their own to cherish.  I recommend this book for fans of Peter Rabbit that are experienced amigurumi makers working at an intermediate to advanced skill level.
