Today I’m sharing an in-depth review of Bella Coco’s Crochet Stitch Library by Sarah-Jayne Fragola to help you decide whether or not this book belongs in your crochet library. With so many crochet-stitch guides out there, it can be hard to know which ones are actually helpful—and which ones will sit on the shelf gathering dust. In this post, I’m breaking down everything from the patterns included to the skill level, supports, and supplies so you can make an informed choice before clicking “add to cart.”

About the Author
Sarah-Jayne Fragola is the creator of Bella Coco Crochet blog and the popular crochet craft channel on YouTube, where she shares tutorials with her online followers. Bella Coco is known for her friendly teaching style and calm color palette. She lives in the UK with her husband and two daughters. This is her second book.
Patterns Included in Bella Coco’s Crochet Stitch Library
Inside the book, you’ll find 75 curated stitch patterns, 25 basic motifs, 5 borders, and three fun projects: the Faded Crochet Wrap, the Fia basketweave tote bag, and the multi-textured patchwork blanket called the Florence Blanket.
The collection is a mix of basic stitches, simple motifs, and more complicated textured stitches. Whether you’re looking for a stitch for upcoming project or just building your stitch knowledge, this practical guide offers a beautiful selection of stitches for every crocheter.

Crochet Terminology
The book is written using U.S. crochet terminology, but it includes UK terminology in brackets next to the US terms or listed clearly in the headings. That means no matter what terms you’re more familiar with, you’ll be able to match stitches and follow along easily—something that’s especially helpful for international readers.
Skill Level
This book could work for a confident beginner, but I’d say the difficulty level really depends on your learning style. If you prefer learning from step-by-step photos, especially for the basic stitches, this one might not be the perfect stitch guide for you. While the basic stitches are explained at the back of the book, there aren’t visual step-by-step images for those. That said, if you’re comfortable reading written instructions or don’t mind looking up a few things online, you’ll probably enjoy using this as a handy reference.
Supports Included for Makers
This book includes some thoughtful support for crocheters between pages 16–37. There’s a helpful section on yarn types and fibers (both synthetic and natural) and a breakdown of yarn formats and weights. I really appreciated the attention to the anatomy of a stitch and the discussion on gauge—particularly the golden loop and how it affects stitch height. A quick note in the gauge section about blocking your swatch before measuring gauge would’ve helped make it more complete for new crocheters.
There are step-by-step photos for key things like making a slip knot, chain, magic ring, and weaving in ends. The section on basic techniques also covers fastening off with an invisible join and changing colors—great for visual learners. That said, I do wish the same photo support had been given to the essential stitches at the back of the book, especially since the photos for other techniques are already included.
Still, for anyone looking to strengthen their understanding of the fundamentals or reference essential techniques, this is a useful guide and a great source of inspiration.

Overall
This is a handy book of crochet stitches, often with simple repeat patterns.
If you’re looking for a stitch dictionary that covers some basic, popular stitches and basic motifs, this could be a great addition to your crochet library.
While it doesn’t dive into every stitch category out there, it’s a beautifully presented crochet-stitch guide with a variety of fun and inspirational crochet stitch patterns. From granny stitches to simple stitch combos, there’s plenty of beginner stitches here to spark new ideas and support your upcoming projects.
If you’re looking for something with a broader range of stitches, including more advanced stitches, this may not cover it all— and you may need to look elsewhere.
