Recently, I was given the opportunity to review a cool, new product called DMC Memory Thread Cones (check out my Memory Thread Cones Review) and since it was originally meant to be used for embroidery and I’m not a big embroidery person, I started looking for ways that I could use the Memory Thread with crochet. I got to work and tried quite a few things before I decided that I could create a pair of crochet earrings. And thus, this free crochet earrings pattern was created. I had so much fun designing these earrings and hope you love making them.
The best part about handmade earrings is that they make great gifts and they take very little time to make. I have made so many of these as gifts that I finally had to stop making them for others and make my own earrings that I promise myself that I wouldn’t give away. These fabulous earrings are great for everyday use, or special events and special occassions. The best earrings are versatile earrings!
The Anabelle free crochet earring pattern is accessible for beginners and doesn’t require knowledge of any special stitches. We will be crocheting with wire and beads in this project but only one bead is utilized for each earring and I’ll show you how to do this in the video tutorial for this pattern below. If you can do single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet and slip stitch, you can make the Anabelle earrings. If you don’t know how to do these stitches,I have tutorials on these stitches available. Check them out below:

DMC Memory Thread is essentially a thin gauge wire that is wrapped in individual strands of thread/fibre. This fibre makes the wire easier to crochet with than regular wire because it glides nicer and I had the added bonus of it being easier on my crochet hooks. I’ve crocheted with regular wire before and ended up with a crochet hook that all scratched up and gnarly looking at the end. Not fun.
One of the main benefits of making crochet earrings with memory thread is that you don’t need to block them or use a fabric stiffener Alike you would if you used embroidery floss or crochet thread to make your earrings. I know some designers who make gorgeous earrings crocheted with thread and these teeny tiny steel crochet hooks and many of them complain about having to stiffen their earrings. When you crochet with wire, this is no longer an issue. It’s a fab way to make a beautiful pair of earrings in even less time.
The DMC Memory Thread Cones are currently only available from the DMC site and only come in the larger cones. However, if you’re after a smaller package of memory thread, then do a quick google or search Etsy for memory thread and there are some places that still have smaller packages of the memory thread available.
Gauge isn’t critical for these crocheted earrings, but keep in mind that not matching gauge will affect the size of your project and how much wire that you will use. Yardage given for this project is approximate and based on the gauge given.

Cute pattern is there any sub for the memory thread? thanks
I’ve read that Kreinik Wired Braid is similar (it comes in metallic colours) but I haven’t personally tried it. A jewellry wire would be a good substitute as well. If you didn’t want to do wire, you could try with a fingering weight yarn but it would need to be stiffened and blocked to help it hold its shape better.
