What Sizes Does This Crochet Headband Pattern Come In?

I’ve made this pattern available in 8 different sizes for your convenience so that you can make this headband for anyone.  The sizes are:

  • Baby (0-3M)

  • Baby (6 – 12M)

  • Toddler (1 – 3Y)

  • Child Size/Teen Size

  • Adult Small

  • Adult Medium

  • Adult Large

How Do I Know What Size To Pick?

To pick the size it’s best to go with the circumference of your head or the head of the person that you want to make the headband for.  Everyone is different and the ages are given as just a guideline so the measurement is the best way to get the best fit.

This headband will have a snug fit at first because it has negative ease, meaning that it will measure slightly smaller than the circumference of your head in order to account for the stretch of the headband.

If you’d prefer a tighter or looser fit you can always go up or down a size or check out the notes section to adjust the size to your personal preference.

What Yarn Does this Crochet Headband Pattern Use?

This pattern uses Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick which is available online and at your local Michaels and Walmart stores.  This is a super bulky weight yarn (5) not to be confused with the worsted weight Wool Ease yarn that is also sold by Lion Brand.

In my opinion, I think Thick and Quick is the perfect yarn for a quick projects and cozy winter headbands.  It’s an acrylic/wool blend yarn that’s very soft and comfortable to wear and is machine washable and dryable.

Can I Use a Different Type of Yarn For This Pattern?

I have given you the instructions in the Notes section of this pattern to adjust both the length of the headband and the width of your headband so if you would like to try giving this pattern a go with say a worsted weight yarn or another yarn of your choice, you can do that.

Yarn Substitutes:

If you can’t get Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick near you or you’d like to explore some yarn alternatives, I’ve created a list of yarns that would work as  good substitutes in this pattern:

Rows 4 – 12: Repeat Rows 2 – 3.

NOTES:

  • Gauge is vital to the project to ensure that it fits as expected.   Not matching gauge not only affects the size of your finished project but the amount of yarn used as well.

  • A 10 mm hook is the suggested hook size for this pattern but you may need to adjust your hook size up or down in order to match the gauge given in this pattern.

  • This pattern is worked in turned rows.  Placing a stitch marker in the first and/or last stitch of each row can help prevent losing or picking up extra stitches.

  • When working your slip stitches on even rows, use a loose tension to ensure that they are easy to work into in subsequent rows and to prevent the fabric from bunching.

  • To adjust the length/circumference of the pattern: Create a foundation chain to your desired length.

  • To adjust the height of this pattern: Repeat Row 2 and 3 until you reach your desired height, always finishing on Row 3.
