If I have learned anything from having a little girl, it’s that accessories and clothing are very important, even for an amigurumi doll. And what wardrobe would be completed without a bathing suit? So today I share my easy free crochet pattern to make a crochet doll bathing suit for my boy doll Advent Adam. This pattern also includes a step-by-step video tutorial so it is accessible for beginners.
While this crochet doll bathing suit is designed to fit my Advent Adam doll, this piece also doubles as a bikini bottom for Advent Addy. I have included a bathing suit top pattern to pair with these swim shorts available in the Advent CAL Bundle.

How to Crochet a Bathing Suit for Amigurumi Dolls
For this crochet doll bathing suit pattern, we are working from the bottom of the shorts to the top. This means that we will crochet each pant leg separately, join them and then continue crocheting the remainder of the swim shorts. A small button is used to fasten the shorts closed and secure them to the doll.
Ways to Customize This Amigurumi Swim Suit
Besides using your own color of choice for this project here are some quick and easy ways to customize this adorable crochet doll swim suit:
- Add a round of accent colour along the bottom edge of each of the leg holes
- Add stripes of different colors by alternating colours every 2 – 4 rounds
- Embroider your child’s first initial on the bottom of one of the pant legs
- Crochet a heart, star or another fun shape and sew it to one of the pant legs
These are just a few ideas but I’m sure you can come up with so many more and that you have so much fun doing so. Have fun with it and make it special for the little one you plan to give it to.

Special Stitches and Techniques:
- Invisible Finish / Join: FO leaving a long tail. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle. Skip a stitch and place the tapestry needle through the top of the next stitch from front to back and pull through. Place tip of needle into top of the last ST worked under the back loop of the stitch and pull through to the back of the work. Weave in the end. Learn how to do this with my invisible finish/join tutorial.
- Single Crochet (SC) Join: With a slip knot already on the hook, insert hook into the designated stitch. YO and pull up a loop. YO and pull through both loops on the hook. View the SC Join tutorial here.
Finished Size:
- Doll is approximately 10.5” tall
Gauge:
- Clothing: 4 sts across x 6 rows = 1” square
Notes:
- These shoes are made to fit my Advent Adam Doll. Gauge is important for ensuring that all of the parts of your doll fit appropriately. If you don’t plan to match gauge, ensure that you maintain a consistent tension throughout each project. Using the same yarn line and hook throughout each project can also assist with minimizing gauge/tension changes.
- For a cleaner SCDEC on pieces worked in continuous rounds, do your SCDEC under the front loops only of each ST rather than under both loops. This is often referred to as an invisible decrease. Check out my invisible decrease tutorial on to see it done.
- For pieces worked in turned rows, use a normal SCDEC stitch instead of the invisible decrease.
- Color changes are done using the last YO of the previous stitch (except where otherwise indicated).

Tie
Thread a length of white embroidery thread at least 10” long onto a tapestry needle. With the front of the swim shorts facing you, insert needle from back to front through a stitch in the shorts, just off-center through Round 15. Pull the embroidery thread part of the way through the fabric.
Thread the opposite end of the embroidery thread onto the needle and bring that end through the shorts from back to front 3 STs over from where you started. Remove the needle and tie together in a knot, near the fabric (taking care not to cinch the fabric together). Tie a bow in the thread and use scissors to cut the ends even.
