About the Author
This collection of patterns brings together the talents of three crochet designers: Caitie Moore (Thoresby Cottage), Sharna Moore (Sweet Sharna), and Celine Semaan (Crafty CC). These designers are known for their whimsical amigurumi, creative designs, and attention to detail.
Patterns Included in 3D Granny Squares Food and Drink
This book features 24 food-themed motif squares that add a fun look to the humble granny square design. In addition to the 24, 3 d granny squares, there are 6 crochet project patterns in which you can use a different square pattern. Â Those patterns are:
- Fried Egg Potholder,
- Pineapple Cushion,
- Apple Coasters,
- Strawberry Towel Topper,
- Teapot Pincushion,
- Cherry Envelope Pouch.
If you already own 3D Granny Squares, you’ll notice that this book takes its square patterns directly from the original, including the same order and style. Even the patterns for the cute fried egg potholder and then easy apple coasters are the same as the original. While it’s a charming compilation, this overlap is worth considering if you prefer a broader variety of square patterns or you already own the original title.
Each square pattern includes the full written pattern as well as a stitch diagram. While this is a great addition, I did find that some of them are a little tricky to see due to the colors used.

Crochet Terminology
The patterns are written in US crochet terminology, with a handy conversion chart on page 4 for those who use UK terminology. This is especially helpful for crocheters from different regions, like South Africa or the UK.
Skill Level
Although no explicit skill level is listed, I would categorize most of these patterns as easy to intermediate. The techniques used in the projects are straightforward enough for confident beginners while still offering something enough to keep experienced crocheters engaged.
Supports Included for Makers
In the front of the book, pages 4-5 provide a yarn key to help match the colors used in each pattern, complete with small rectangles along the page edges for quick reference. You’ll also find crochet charts and a helpful legend for chart symbols, and the abbreviations on pages 4 – 5.
The general techniques section at the back of the book offers step-by-step written instructions with accompanying illustrations for the stitches and techniques used throughout the book.

Supplies Needed
All patterns in the book use Paintbox Cotton DK yarn, a natural fiber that adds a soft yet sturdy finish to your work. Hook sizes range from 2.7mm to 4mm, ensuring you have everything you need to recreate these designs in perfect condition.

Overall
This collection of pop-up granny squares brings a delightful theme of food to life. It’s ideal for crocheters who love the idea of creating special gifts, cute toys, or beautiful home décor with a playful twist. The themed towel topper, fruity cushion, and cherry pie designs are just a few of the unique gifts you could make for special occasions or personal projects.
That said, if you’re choosing between this book and the original 3D Granny Squares, I’d recommend the latter for its wider range of designs and greater value. Still, this book is a great addition to your collection if you are looking for a collection of food-themed square crochet patterns that you can use for everything from a food-themed baby blanket to home decor.
