Furls Wander Acrylic Yarn Review

As you may already know, Furls Crochet doesn’t just sell crochet hooks, but they also sell a merino wool blend yarn called Furls Whims Merino. Until now, that was the only Furls-branded yarn that they sold. Now, there’s a new yarn in town called Furls Wander and I was fortunate enough to be sent some of the new yarn before they launched it to take it for a test stitch.

This yarn was provided to me free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

Before we get into it, let’s go over the yarn label information so we all know a bit more about the yarn:

I was sent the Midnight, Amethyst, Pomegranate, Meadow and Thatch colourways (pictured above and named from left to right). My first impressions of the yarn upon taking it out of the box was how soft it was to touch and noticing the sheen that the yarn has. The yarn has this really pretty shine to it that I haven’t seen very often in a yarn. I particularly enjoyed the shine in the Thatch colourway. It is such a beautiful gold colour and that little shine gives it a bit of a pop that just drew me in. All the yarn colours I tested were vibrant and rich. Just really beautiful, bold colours.

Furls Wander was pleasant to work with and had minimal issues with splitting. It has nice stitch definition and is soft on your hands while you work. One of the balls that I worked with had quiet a few knots, splits and frays but I did not experience that with any of the other balls so I’m hoping that was a fluke. Below you can see Furls Wander in two different crochet swatches. I used the Thatch and Amethyst colourways for these swatches. With the Thatch colour, I did a swatch with basic crochet stitches. Starting with single crochet stitches, moving to half double crochet and then double crochet stitches. I used a 6.0mm crochet hook here for that swatch. For my swatch done in Amethyst, I used an 8mm tunisian crochet hook and I started with tunisian simple stitch followed by tunisian knit stitch. Of the two swatches, I think I like how the tunisian simple stitch sample looks the best. I just imagine a luxuriously thick and soft pair of slippers made in tunisian with this yarn and I bet they’d be an instant favourite.

Furls Wander has a bit of a fuzzy halo to it which is exacerbated with minimal friction so for this reason, I would personally not use it for a wearable like a sweater unless the fuzzy halo look is something you’re after. It would be great for blankets and accesories though. This is of course, my personal opinion. If this isn’t something that bothers you, then this yarn may be something you fall in love with right away. The squish factor on this yarn is through the roof so it may even be something you’re willing to overlook in order to have that soft, lush fabric.

Overall, I enjoyed the yarn and I’m definitely going to be making something with it. I’ve already made up a couple of swatches but I love them all so it’s hard to decide what it will become.
