What can I use to crochet a bag for my cell phone?

For this phone pouch project, you can use any DK weight yarn that you have in your stash.

You’ll need less than 100 yards of a single color to complete this project so if you have leftover yarn from a previous project, this is a great project to use it up.

I chose to use King Cole Simply Denim DK yarn for this project because it a a solid workhorse yarn but is still incredibly soft so I’m not worried about any potential damage to my phone as it goes in and out of the crochet case.

Simply Denim DK is machine washable so if it needs cleaning, a quick trip in the wash is all it takes for it to look great again.

Supplies:

Abbreviations:
(Click links in list to view a photo & video tutorial for that stitch / technique)

Special Stitches & Techniques:

  • Invisible Finish/Join: FO leaving a long tail. Thread the yarn tail onto a tapestry needle.  Skip a stitch and place the tapestry needle through the top of the next stitch from front to back and pull the yarn tail through to the back.  Place the tip of needle into the top of the last stitch worked, under the back loop only of the stitch and pull through to the back of the work.  Weave in the end. Finished Size:

  • Approx 3.75” across x 6.5” tall when laid flat.

  • Fits phones that measure up to 3.75” across x 6.25” tall x 5/8” thick.

    • If your phone is taller, see the notes for instructions for adjusting the height of the project.

Gauge:

  • Approx. 24 sts x 26 Rounds = 4 inches

NOTES:

  • Gauge is vital to the project to ensure that it fits as expected.

  • A 3.5mm crochet hook is recommended for this pattern but I suggest using whatever hook size is needed to match the given gauge.

  • Reading the Pattern: Instructions in brackets: I.e.: (SC, SCINC) x 6, this means you’ll work 1 SC stitch in the first stitch and then SCINC in the next and you’ll repeat that pattern a total of 6 times.

    • Numbers indicated in () at the end of a Round/Row indicate the number of stitches you should have at the end of the Round/Row. I recommend counting your stitches at the end of each Round/Row before moving on to the next.

    • Where SC is followed by a number (i.e. SC 14), you’ll work 1 SC stitch in the next 14 stitches or chains, unless the pattern specifies to work those stitches into the same stitch or chain.

  • This pattern is worked in continuous Rounds (unless where stated otherwise).  Do not join at the end of the Round, unless indicated.  A stitch marker is used to keep track of the beginning of the Round.

  • This pattern is worked from the bottom of the case to the top.

  • To adjust the height of the case, repeat Rows 3 – 8 until the case has almost
reached the desired size and then continue on to Rounds 37 – 42 – adding any additional rows of single crochet as necessary to fit your phone.
