How to Make Crochet Doll Shorts and Pants – Free Crochet Pattern

two amigurumi dolls side by side, one wearing pants and the other wearing shorts with text that says How to Crochet doll shorts and pants free pattern and video tutorial

Today we are going to learning how to make crochet doll shorts and pants. This free crochet pattern includes both the written pattern for both a pair or doll pants and a pair of shorts as well as a step-by-step video tutorial to show you how to make both of them. These patterns are beginner-friendly and easy to customize. I’ve also included a few quick and easy ways to customize this free pattern to make a unique pair of crochet doll shorts and pants.

I’ll be sharing some links to some other free crochet doll clothes patterns, accessories and doll garments that you can add to your doll’s wardrobe as well. This pattern is Week 13 and 14 of the Amigurumi Advent Calendar Crochet Along and is designed to fit my Advent Amy doll pattern. However, it could fit a number of my other amigurumi doll patterns that I have available.

How to Make Crochet Doll Shorts or Pants

Both crochet patterns that I’ve shared today start the same way: You crochet the first leg of the pants and then the second leg is crocheted separately. After both legs are created, we will join the legs together and then crochet the rest of the pants. Both pant legs are worked from the bottom-up and I’ve done this for a very specific reason: so if your gauge is off or you want to be able to customize your pants, you can try them on your own dolls as you go to make sure they will fit them appropriately.

Although the written pattern for these pants create a pair of pants or shorts that is a solid color, there are a few easy ways to customize your pants and shorts to give them a new look. Have fun customizing your doll shorts or pants by:

  • using different colors,
  • adding stripes,
  • embroidering on some small details like flowers or shapes,
  • adding various trims / borders and more.

I have had so much fun seeing everyone’s unique color choices and the ways that you have customized your different doll clothes and doll dresses throughout the crochet along so far! If you have an idea to customize the shorts and pants, I’d love to hear about it and / or see it so please share your idea in the comment section below or share photos of your makes in the Loopy Lamb Crochet Community or tag me on social media.

Tips to Make Sure Your Pants or Shorts Fit Your Advent Amy Doll

If you’ve been crochet along with us for the Amigurumi Advent Calendar CAL, make sure that you start off using the same hook size that you have been using for all of the other projects that you have made so far.

If you find that your pants are too tight: try loosening up your tension or going up a hook size until the pants can slide over the doll’s feet and up the legs.

If you find that your pants are too loose: try tightening up your tension or going down a hook size until the pants fit more to your liking.

Special Techniques and Stitches:

  • Invisible Finish/Join: FO leaving a long tail. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle.  Place the tapestry needle through the top of the 2nd ST from front to back and pull through.  Place tip of needle into top of the last ST of the round, under the back loop of the stitch, and pull through to the back of the work.  Weave in the end. Learn how to do this with my invisible finish/join tutorial.

Finished Size:

  • Clothing to fit Advent Amy Doll which is approximately 10.5” tall.

Gauge:

  • Clothing: 4 sts across x 6 rows = 1” square.

  • Doll: Rounds 1 – 4 of the Leg = 1.5” across at widest point.

Notes:

  • Gauge is important for ensuring that all of the parts of your doll fit appropriately.  If you don’t plan to match gauge, ensure that you maintain a consistent tension throughout your project.

  • Most of the pieces are worked back and forth in turned rows, unless noted.  Read instructions for each piece carefully before starting to crochet.

  • For pieces worked in continuous rounds, a stitch marker is used to marker the first ST of the round and is moved up in each consecutive round.
