What is a Crochet Pocket Shawl?
A crochet pocket shawl is a cozy and stylish accessory that combines the warmth and function of a shawl with the convenience of pockets.
It’s great for pairing with leggings or a pair of jeans to keep you warm on a cool day while being able to keep your hands warm and store small items like keys, phones, tissues etc.
I personally love pocket shawls for their convenience and for wearing on quick trips and outings. My husband loves to keep the car really cold so I wear mine in the car to keep off the chill and we’re both happy.
What Size Should I Crochet a Pocket Shawl?
The average side of a crocheted shawl with pockets varies but the average width of the shawl is 18 – 24″ and the length of the shawl averages 60-80″ long.
Some of the easy crochet pocket shawl patterns in this round up include shawls in multiple sizes based on women’s dress sizes in order to ensure you get a good fit and make a cozy shawl you’ll love.
What Materials Do I Need To Crochet A Pocket Shawl?

How Many Skeins of Yarn Do I Need to Crochet a Pocket Shawl?
How much yarn you need depends on a variety of factors: your person tension/gauge, the stitch pattern used, the yarn weight and the size of your shawl.
On average, most folks should be able to crochet a pocket shawl with 2 – 3 skeins of worsted weight yarn. The best way to know how much yarn you’ll need for sure is to do a gauge swatch and to calculate how much yarn you’ll need.
All of the patterns in this round up will have a materials list that will tell you how much yarn you’ll need so you can get to work quickly without having to figure it out on your own.
How Many Hours Does it Take to Crochet a Shawl with Pockets?
The amount of time it takes depends on a variety of factors: the yarn weight, how fast you crochet, whether you are learning something new, the size of the shawl and the complexity of the design.
As a rough estimate, a crochet pocket shawl made with basic stitches may take between 10 – 20 hours to crochet. The bigger and more complex the project, the longer it will take you to get to the end of the shawl.
