Today is a really exciting day for me. This is my first ever published crochet garment pattern! The Comfy Spring Cardi is a size inclusize, free crochet cocoon cardigan pattern that is made in one piece and has a one row repeat for the body so it’s great for those that like to netflix and stitch.

I have been wanting to release crochet garment patterns for a while but I didn’t want to do that until I could confidently grade those patterns so they could be size inclusive. I know how hard it can be to find a good garment pattern, let alone a nice free crochet cocoon cardigan pattern that is available in all the sizes. Usually you see “one size fits all” and unfortunately, that usually doesn’t work for everyone. I was fortunate enough to have some wonderful ladies volunteer to test this cardi for me so that we could ensure that the fit does in fact work for everyone from sizes XS to 5XL. I couldn’t have done this without their help so a HUGE thank you to all of them for all of their hard work and support during this experience.

As I mentioned previously, this free crochet cocoon cardigan pattern is made in one piece. You crochet the main panel, per the instructions for your size, fold and seam it and then work your ribbing around the largest opening of the cardi. A lot of thought was put into the construction of this cardi. I recommend using the mattress stitch to seam your cardigan so as to give your project the cleanest finish possible and so that the seams sit flat against your chest/abdomen. Using a slip stitch or single crochet seam may be quicker but it will add unnecessary bulk to the front of your project.

The Comfy Spring Cardi was designed using Comfy Worsted yarn from WeCrochet which is one of my favourite cotton blend yarns – Check out my review of Comfy Worsted. You can substitute other yarns of your preference as long as you are able to match the gauge given in the pattern. Matching gauge is so so so important for ensuring that your project fits you as expected. If you don’t match gauge, you may end up with a cocoon cardi that is too big or too small and you’ll end up disappointed. It only takes a few minutes to whip up a gauge swatch and it’s totally worth taking the time to do so to ensure you spend your time making something you’ll enjoy.
