I designed this triangle shawl pattern to remove all that extra fabric in the middle of the shawl that makes you feel claustrophobic or uncomfortable. This way, the shawl lays flatter across the chest while being cooler and more comfortable to wear in warmer weather.

How to Crochet This Triangle Shawl Crochet Pattern
This easy pattern is worked from the top of the shawl down to the point of the shawl. It has a simple row repeat and we are going to use four different colors to give this beautiful shawl some added visual interest.
The simple construction and simple stitches let the beauty of the yarn shine. The double crochet stitches make this look like a lacy shawl. If you have made basic granny squares, you can make this lightweight shawl.
Where most triangle scarves or shawls start with a magic ring or chain ring and a small amount of stitches, we will start with a longer foundation chain. We do this in order to skip multiple rows of the pattern that you would see in other shawl patterns so that we have less fabric in the center of the shawl.
Ways to Customize This Shawl
This easy crochet triangle shawl pattern is easy enough for even a beginner crocheter to customize. Omit the color changes to make your shawl all one colour, add or omit more rows to adjust the size of your shawl or play with color by using more or less yarn colors to customize your piece.
You can also change up your yarn weight and hook size to use up yarn in your stash as well.But keep in mind, that using a different weight yarn will change the amount of yarn needed to achieve a shawl of the samd size.
Why Does My Shawl Have a Triangle Cut-Out of the Center?
This triangle scarf / shawl was designed to be more comfortable and functional. I hate putting on a shawl to have a ton of fabric up close to my neck. When the fabric is on the front, it feels suffocating. When that fabric is on the back, it is uncomfortable.
Frankly, it’s the reason why I don’t wear or make a lot of shawls. I just can’t see the reason to spend hours making something that I’m not comfortable wearing. So I set out to fix this problem.
This cut-out I’ve designed into this simple crochet triangle shawl pattern eliminates that additional fabric helping it to lay flatter on your body and thus, be more comfortable.
About the Yarn
For this project, I used King Cole Finesse Cotton Silk yarn which is a fantastic yarn for this time of year. It’s cool, light weight and has a beautiful heathering throughout that gives this easy crochet shawl pattern some beautiful depth and texture. It’s comprised of 77% cotton and 33% silk and this soft yarn is perfect for next to skin wearing.
Each skein of yarn is 50g so you’ll need a total of 7 balls to make this shawl. King Cole Finesse Cotton Silk yarn is available at your local yarn store or at Lovecrafts.com
Care Instructions: If you make this shawl with Finesse Cotton Silk DK yarn, here are the care instructions: It must be hand washed (30C) and dry flat. Do not iron, bleach of tumble dry.

Using Colour A, CH 156.
Row 1: DC 3 in 6th CH from the hook (skipped 5 CHs count as first DC and 2 skipped CHs), *SK 2 CHs, DC 3 in the next CH (CL made), rep from * until 3 CHs remain. SK 2 CHs, DC in last CH. (50 CL, 2 DC)
Row 2: CH 3 and turn. Work 2 DC in the SP between 1st DC and the first CL from the previous row, *CL in the SP between the next 2 CL’s from the previous row; rep from * 23 more times, work (CL, CH 1, CL) between next 2 CL’s. PM in the CH 1 SP, CL between each CL until 1 CL remains. 2 DC between last CL and last ST, DC in the last ST. (50 CL, 6 DC)
Row 3: CH 3 and turn. 2 DC in the first ST, SK 2 STs, *CL in the SP between the next 2 CL from the previous row, rep from * until marked CH SP, (CL, CH 1, CL) in the marked SP. PM in the CH 1 SP. CL between each CL until 3 DC remain. SK 2 STs, 3 DC in last ST.
